Command Car Update:

By: Gary Park

You'll never hear the end of this you say. What's this you ask? Why it's, my 1941 WC15 ½ Ton Command Car, of course. Since I last communicated, I have moved the little jewel to the inside of the shop, into center stage so to speak. I have relocated the MB to the home garage and shifted the '47 Willy's Pickup to the South end of the shop to make room to work. Okay, I still have the '44 GPW still tucked away in the corner, which will rise like the Phoenix someday. But, that's another day yet to come.

Jerry, my brother, and I decided to start trying to reestablish or refit the missing rear top cross panel and tailgate that was, so horribly cut away by some half-wit, who knows how many years ago, in an attempt to make a pickup truck. (I will never fully understand the mentality of those people of yesteryears, as to their wisdom in trying to destroy the beauty of those beautiful pieces of history). I was able to locate a "take-off" ½-ton tailgate from Troy Allen, from the sister Arrowhead chapter of the MVPA, at the MV show in Dallas last October. It [the tailgate] needed a little TLC and a lot of pounding to repair a very serious "hickey" that was applied to one corner at some juncture in time. Also, the latches were really rusted up and required a lot of penetrating oil to bring back to life. I will still have to order the T-handles as the old ones were broken off in the process. I'm told that, Vintage Power Wagon can furnish these. The missing top rear cross panel I found on the Internet in Virginia from a fellow MV nut.

Well here's the bottom line of this update, (see attached pics) we, or I should say more correctly say, Jerry did most of the hard work, was able to reattach the missing cross piece and tailgate. Pulled out the crumpled up fenders and, she looks really great.
